While taking a rare break from my environmental work, I made the life changing decision to take a snowboarding lesson from my would be life and business partner on the slopes of the Rocky Mountains. That slippery slope resulted in never getting on a snowboard again, but an immediate love affair with my husband, Roland, and the Rocky Mountains. It took that newborn love and the Rocky Mountain School of Photography in Montana to pry me away from the ocean and to move west. Here, I've been able to pursue and refine my skill as a photographer, while Roland helped me build our business.

Together, we’ve created Kimball Nelson Photography (as well as two children!). Our love of the environment translates into supporting environmental groups with our profits (Save the Poudre; Environment Colorado; Colorado Conservation Voters; Sierra Club; Trout Unlimited), supporting community agriculture and the local food movement (Grant Farms), the local living economy (Be Local Northern Colorado) and using sustainable practices and products (check out our new eco-frames!)

In our photography, we love to use the Colorado landscape as a backdrop for our images. Some of our favorite places to meet clients are the numerous parks along the front range or along the Poudre River. We try to use organic, natural props in our sittings, shooting outdoors whenever possible depending on natural light to garner genuine images. We love to have fun with our photography! That’s why we shoot weddings – such fun, happy occasions. When we shoot a family or senior portrait, we work to have fun with you all, to set up fun poses, to get children playing – all to provide those natural moments.

So come have fun with us! Set up a portrait session or come out and see our indoor or outdoor studio. Meet with us about your wedding or event. Together, we can turn those natural moments into your genuine images.
